I recently sent an inquiry about possibly bringing Richard Linklater’s Boyhood to Tyler, TX. Earlier today I was surprised to receive this response back, while the information is disappointing for movie fans in East Texas (we’re used to it), I’m thankful for Ms. Hattaway taking the time to respond personally to my request.
Hi Mr. Leahy,
I saw that you requested the movie, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. Your request was sent to my film broker and I am sorry to say that we will not be able to get this title. It was only limited to 337 screens for the entire United States. With Tyler being as small as we are, it will not be able to be shown here. I am very sorry and hopefully we can bring other titles you would like if they come available.
Thank You
Diane Hattaway

With all the buzz this film is receiving, it’s so strange that they would limit the film to 337 screens. You’d think they’d want to release it to an audience as large as possible. Well, I guess we’ll have to make a trip to Dallas to see this unique piece cinema.-JL

UPDATE: Well I guess Cinemark 14 in Tyler has more pull than Regal Tyler Rose because they were able to get Boyhood starting tomorrow! So Michelle and I will be front and center for a 6:30pm showing tomorrow evening. Really excited…JL
Rats!!
Opens tomorrow in Tyler at Carmike…Oh yeah!!
You beat me to it! I was about to send the same message to you. We are planning on trying to catch the 6:30pm showing tomorrow as long as it doesn’t sell out. I might cry if that happens 😉
Did you check out the Regal/Tyler Rose critic link?
I did take a peak at it, it was a promotion for Sprite films where you had to make a 30 second video review of one of their short films entries and post it to your youtube channel, and then submit it to their contest. Unfortunately I don’t have a youtube channel, or any onscreen skills. I appreciate you sending the link though, I’m still interested in checking out the short film submissions when I have free time 🙂
Wow…Two hours and 45 minutes…Slow at times but interestingly tied together…Hawke did a credible job, harder to say that of Arquette…Kid(s) worth watching throughout…Look forward to your take…
