IN MEMORIAM TOP 6 LIST: RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH
Best recognized by many for his iconic role in Jurassic Park, British actor/director Richard Attenborough received two Academy awards for his work on the 1982 Best Picture winner, Gandhi, including one for Best Director. Attenborough also directed Chaplin, the biopic that earned Robert Downey, Jr. his first Oscar nomination. Attenborough was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1976 for his contributions to British cinema and later received a life peerage in 1993, becoming Baron Attenborough of Richmond upon Thames.
I had forgotten that he had done Chaplin! So glad you included it in this list. Must see it again.
Very sad day to hear of his passing, even though he was 91…
Yes, Chaplin was a very well made biopic. It helped fuel my much needed education in Chaplin’s amazing resume a few years back. While reading other posts about Attenborough’s career, one directed film I learned I need to see is the film he made a year after Chaplin, Shadowlands with Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.
Right! Now THAT is a moving film. If you watch it, have the tissue handy.
